David Palmer

David Palmer received his Ph.D. in the experimental analysis of behavior at the University of Massachusetts in 1988 under the direction of John Donahoe. Together with his adviser, he co-authored the textbook, Learning and Complex Behavior, which interprets all behavioral complexity as the result of a combination of two selection processes: natural selection and reinforcement. For the past 30 years, he has taught statistics and behavioral psychology at Smith College. His principal work has been an attempt to clarify and extend the interpretive writings of B. F. Skinner, with a particular emphasis on understanding the behavioral processes underlying grammar.
